Black History Month Kick Off
February 4, 2010

Peter Karl Youngren was an honoured guest at the 16th Annual Black History Month Kick Off at police headquarters on Thursday, January 28th. The theme this year was “The Recollection of How, When and Where it all Happened”

Numerous dignitaries including The Hon Jean Augustine, M.P.P. Margaret Best, Barbara Hall and others joined Toronto Police Services Board Chair Alok Mukherjee and Deputy Chief Peter Sloly at this important and symbolic event. The ceremony featured cultural entertainment from various artists including the Revivaltime Tabernacle Youth Choir and LYNC. The event went well into the night as people gathered afterwards for a warm reception.

Peter Karl as well as the 4Life Foundation strongly supports the Toronto Police Service and their Black History events and activities.

Below Peter is pictured during the reception after the event with the first black Police Officer, Larry McClarty. As hard as it is to believe, the first black police office was only inducted into the TPS in 1960. Larry is a personal hero of Peter Karl’s.
